AMRA/RockStar History

Written by Dave Gronlund

Early 2004 a group of young enthusiastic Arizona desert racers noticed a need for diversity in Arizona offroad racing. Only one organization in the state was holding events such as enduros that were different than the same old desert race. They yearned for more technical slower paced event that would test their level of skill rather than their nerves from riding high speeds such as real Hare Scrambles, Enduros, and GP’s. The Arizona Motorcycle Riders Association, AMRA, was formed as an AMA district 31 sanctioned promoting entity. To keep it fair and distribute the work load around the organization decided to from as a club based series with the individual clubs putting on the events. That way everyone has a chance to provide the racers the experience the way they see fit. The problem was there was only one AMA sanctioned motorcycle club in the state. The call then went out to all concerned all motorcycle enthusiasts to band together and form a club to provide input into the series. Quickly within months a handful of clubs sprung up and the series came to life.

The Rock Stars Motorcycle Club was founded and started by a small group of the founders of the  AMRA sanctioning body in May 2004. The word got out immediately and the club grew to 20+ members within the first few months. Six months into the clubs existence they held the AMRA’s inaugural event at Sycamore Creek in November 2004. The work was just starting; they quickly turned around and held the second round of the 2005 AMRA series in Superior Arizona March 2005. The club has held at least one event a year, sometimes 2, and even participated in as many as 3 and 4 events per year since the conception of the club. The Rock Stars Motorcycle club has successfully promoted 3 rounds of the AMA Western National Hare Scrambles series and currently holds their yearly AMRA points event in Globe Arizona.
